Practical information Bernard answers your questions
At Bernard Forever, we create and sell temporary tattoos. But above all, we're lovers of graphic arts and offbeat humor.
1. Our temporary tattoos
Also known as a superficial temporary tattoo, transfer tattoo, or decal, a temporary tattoo looks just like a real tattoo once it’s applied to the skin.
What’s the advantage of a temporary tattoo? It doesn’t have that sometimes frustratingly irreversible aspect.
The procedure is simple and particularly accessible, even to avid readers of Bernard-Henri Lévy:
– Remove the protective film
– Apply the tattoo to the skin
– Wet the back of the temporary tattoo that is stuck to your skin by gently patting the entire surface of the paper with a damp sponge
– Peel the wet sheet off your skin and admire how beautiful the tattoo looks on you!
They last an average of 3 to 4 days, but can last longer if, for example, you stay still and dry for several days…
It also appears that cryogenics significantly increases the longevity of temporary tattoos, but we lack clinical data to confirm this definitively.
And my skin—is it going to melt?
Yes! And it’s really painful.
No, no… the inks we use for our tattoos are hypoallergenic and do not contain henna. Bernard’s temporary tattoos are made from linseed oil or soybean oil. They comply with the French standard NF EN 71-10 and the European standard CE 1223-2009.
You can apply your temporary tattoo anywhere on your body, except:
– near the eyes
– in the mouth
– on the genitals (what a crazy idea…!)
Temporary tattoos fade on their own over time. However, in an emergency, you have two options:
– Rub the tattoo with a rich cream or body lotion
– Cut off the limb with the tattoo on it: it works, but it stings a little…
Ideally, store them in a dry place where the temperature does not exceed 25° C, and, if possible, away from direct sunlight.
If some time has passed and you haven’t ended up putting them on your skin, you can also repurpose your temporary tattoos by using them to decorate other items. Here are a few ideas from the article: “Do It Yourself: 5 DIY Ideas Using Temporary Tattoos.”
